Missouri Kansas Queer Law Paralegal Job Description

Timeline: Applications open from June 24 th – July 14 th
Interviews will be conducted July 15 th – August 3 rd
Anticipated Start Date – August 17 th

  • Pay: $40,000 – $65,000 starting yearly salary
  • Dependent on experience and anticipated weekly hours working (32 – 40 hours per week)

    New YearsFlexibility on working between 32 – 40 hours per week (schedule set at beginning of

Writing sample can be whatever you wish to provide to show your capabilities that align with the job description (i.e. fictitious name change petition, fictitious requests for production for a civil case matter, research memo on specific legal issue, etc.)

Job Description: This is one of two paralegals that support two+ attorneys. This position will support civil cases, specifically employment and public accommodation discrimination cases and
other civil rights cases. Other duties include general office administration. Specific job
duties/requirements include:

  • Be present in the office at least four days a week
  • Interact and be front facing with clients and potential clients
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Minimally proficient in Adobe Acrobat, converting Word to PDF and redacting
  • Knowledge of Clio is a plus
  • Monitor intake email and schedule appointments for attorneys
  • Work with other staff to monitor office phone and answer calls as needed
  • Monitor civil cases for important filing deadlines
  • Use appropriate name and pronouns for clients and potential clients
  • General paper filing and office maintenance as needed
  • Draft name and gender marker change petitions and filing documents
  • Complete publication requirements
  • Monitor name and gender marker cases and schedule hearings
  • Work with clients to respond to discovery documents
  • Draft objections and responses to discovery documents
  • Work one half day on a Saturday or Sunday per month as scheduled by the firm
